0637 GMT [Dow Jones]--German manufacturing orders took a surprising nosedive in March, falling 2.8%. Surveyed experts had expected a 0.2% rise. The biggest drag was orders from the euro zone which fell by 9.4%. Perhaps of greater concern, the country's economics ministry hinted that "current geopolitical events" could slow order activity going forward, at least temporarily. Given that Germany is Europe's largest economy, such a warning matters. Just as the euro zone debt crisis seems firmly to be a thing of the past, a possible war on Europe's borders could arrest the euro zone's nascent recovery. (todd.buell@wsj.com; Twitter: @ToddBuell)
