NZ Retail Spending Perks Up More Than Expected in October

0047 GMT [Dow Jones] Total retail spending in New Zealand perked up by more than expected in October, rising 1.0% for the month, says ASB economist Christina Leung. "Focusing on the annual growth in spending of circa 5%, we retain our view of continued moderate growth in underlying household spending," she adds. Consumer confidence, although lower in recent months, remains high and is supported by the improvement in the labour market, she says. "This combination should encourage further moderate growth in household spending." (lucy.craymer@wsj.com;Twitter: @lucy_craymer)
