Russia Sees Smaller Decline in Sales of Cars, Light Commercial Vehicles

        By James Marson
MOSCOW--Sales of cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia were 1.1% lower in November compared with the previous year, a much smaller decline than in recent months as consumers made purchases before expected price rises next year, the Association of European Businesses said Monday.
"Retail demand has been extraordinary in recent weeks, helped by government subsidies and consumers rushing to get ahead of widely anticipated new year price increases," said Joerg Schreiber, chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee. "The outlook on December sales is rather promising as well, raising the prospect of a decent closing of a difficult year for the Russian car market."
The 1.1% decline in sales in November compares with a 9.9% slide in October and a 20.1% plunge in September, according to AEB data.
