Indonesia VP: Cabinet Shakeup Will Be One Solution to Sagging Economy

By Ben Otto and Anita Rachman
JAKARTA, Indonesia--Indonesia's economy is in a bad state, and one of the solutions will be a cabinet shakeup that could include members of the chief economics team, the vice president said.
Across the cabinet of President Joko Widodo, "some [ministers] need more" improvement, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said in an interview at his office in Jakarta. "We'll change [to create] a better team" after making an evaluation of all ministers, "including the team" that oversees economic ministries, he said.
Mr. Kalla, a wealthy businessman and longtime fixture on the national political stage, declined to say when a shuffle would happen. Advisers to Mr. Widodo, who took office in October, and members of his coalition have said it could happen next month, after annual Muslim holidays.
Mr. Kalla also played down talk of a fractured relationship with Mr. Widodo, saying that the two agree "90 percent, 99 percent" of the time, and that his office was moved closer to the Presidential Palace to be able to hold regular meetings.
"Sometimes we meet three times a day," he said.
