European Commission: Bailout Institutions See Greece's Latest Measures as Timely, Overall Satisfactory

BRUSSELS--The institutions overseeing Greece's bailout see the country's implementation of the latest austerity measures as timely and overall satisfactory, a spokeswoman for the European Commission said Thursday.
Greece's parliament passed early Thursday a second set of economic overhauls demanded by its international creditors as a precondition to start talks over a third bailout package of up to 86 billion euros ($93 billion).
According to the assessment by the institutions supervising eurozone bailouts--the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund--Greece has legally implemented key economic overhauls agreed at a summit of eurozone leaders on July 12 "in a timely and overall satisfactory manner," the spokeswoman said.
"Negotiations on the Memorandum of Understanding should now progress as swiftly as possible," she added.
The second set of overhauls necessary to progress with negotiations were supported by 230 lawmakers in Greece's 300-seat parliament, as they was backed by opposition parties. Of the ruling Syriza party's 149 members, 31 voted Thursday against the deal and five abstained. Last week, 32 lawmakers voted against the first set of measures, six abstained and one was absent.
