Weekend Wins Box Office

“Mockingjay — Part 2″ Winning Stuffed Thanksgiving Weekend Box Office - Hunger Games fans still have an appetite for Mockingjay — Part 2 over Thanksgiving weekend.

Theaters are stuffed with moviegoers, and the last film in the beloved franchise seems to be the flick of choice. For the five-day holiday period, which began Wednesday and runs through Sunday, Mockingjay — Part 2 is expected to easily edge out the competition. The movie is pegged to bring in $74.4 million for the extended weekend.

The newest Pixar movie, The Good Dinosaur, will have to settle for second place, but it won’t be going extinct anytime soon with a projected haul of $55.9 million. And Creed, the spinoff to the Rocky franchise, is likely to take home the bronze with $41.1 million for third place.

That would push former chart-topper Spectre down to the number four spot, where it’s expected to sit with a box office total of $18.4 million. Receipts of $13.7 million could land The Peanuts Movie in fifth. The Night Before is looking at a possible sixth-place-finish if it rakes in $11.4 million.

Ticket sales of $5.8 million would allow Secret In Their Eyes to nab seventh. Potentially rounding out the Top 10 are Spotlight ($5.5 million), Brooklyn ($4.7 million), and The Martian ($4.5 million). All figures are currently estimates, and Gossip Cop will have updates.
