Honduras national team midfielder Arnold Peralta shot dead in hometown - Honduras national team midfielder Arnold Peralta was shot to death Thursday in his hometown of La Ceiba, professional club Olimpia confirmed.

Police said Peralta, 26, was killed outside a shopping mall while on vacation after the conclusion of Olimpia's season.

Peralta made more than 20 international appearances and moved to Olimpia earlier this year after spending a year and a half with Scottish club Rangers.

"We deeply regret the death of our player Arnold Peralta. The Olympic family is mourning," Olimpia tweeted.

The Honduran football federation also sent its commiserations to Peralta's family and friends.

Peralta represented Honduras on several occasions, including multiple World Cup qualifiers.
