The Alabama running back joined Mark Ingram (2009) as Alabama's Heisman winners.
Only five SEC schools have produced Heisman winners: Auburn (3), Florida (3), Georgia (2), Alabama (2), LSU and Texas A&M.
Here's a look at those SEC winners.
1. RB Derrick Henry, Alabama
Year: 2015
Henry's assault on the Alabama record book isn't complete — the Crimson Tide play in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff on Dec. 31. The Bama junior has 1,986 yards and an SEC record-tying 23 rushing scores. He's run for a touchdown in all 13 games (18 in a row dating back to last season) and has four 200-yard games this season.
2. QB Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M
Year: 2012
The redshirt freshman was a highlight machine. He threw for 3,706 yards and 26 touchdowns and also ran for 1,410 yards and 21 scores.
Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o finished second in voting and Kansas State QB Collin Klein was third.
3. QB Cam Newton, Auburn
Year: 2010
Newton did it all: He threw for 2,854 yards and 30 TDs and added 1,473 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns in leading Auburn to an undefeated season with a win over Oregon in the BCS Championship Game.
4. RB Mark Ingram, Alabama
Year: 2009
Ingram won a tight vote with Stanford RB Toby Gerhart. Ingram won by just 28 votes. He ran for 1,658 yards and 17 scores in becoming Alabama's first Heisman Trophy winner.
5. QB Tim Tebow, Florida
Year: 2007
Tebow did it all for Urban Meyer. He threw for 3,286 yards and 32 TDs and ran for another 895 yards and 23 touchdowns. The voting was closer than expected. Tebow beat Arkansas RB Darren McFadden by 254 total votes.
6. QB Danny Wuerffel, Florida
Year: 1996
Wuerffel was a perfect fit in Steve Spurrier's Fun 'n' Gun offense. He threw for 3,931 yards and 39 touchdowns for the national champion Gators and beat Iowa State running back Troy Davis by less than 200 votes.
7. RB Bo Jackson, Auburn
Year: 1985
At the time, Bo's Heisman victory was the closest in Heisman history — he edged Iowa QB Chuck Long by 45 votes. Jackson ran for 1,915 yards and 19 TDs and averaged more than six yards per carry.
8. RB Herschel Walker, Georgia
Year: 1982
The junior was an overwhelming winner, beating John Elway and Eric Dickerson. Walker ran for 1,855 yards — he had at least 100 in every game but the season opener — and scored 17 touchdowns.
9. QB Pat Sullivan, Auburn
Year: 1971
Sullivan became Auburn's first Heisman winner when he threw for 2,262 yards and 21 TDs and his four-touchdown performance against Georgia late in the season was the game that pushed him to the win over Cornell RB Ed Marinaro.
10. QB Steve Spurrier, Florida
Year: 1966
The first SEC quarterback to win the Heisman, Spurrier threw for 2,172 yards and 16 scores. He may have gotten the edge over Purdue's Bob Griese when he threw for a score, ran for one and kicked the game-winning field goal in a 30-27 win against Auburn.
11. HB Billy Cannon, LSU
Year: 1959
Cannon easily won the Heisman and his punt return for a TD against Ole Miss when he broke tackle after tackle was his Heisman moment. He ran for 607 yards, had 200 receiving yards and totaled 1,334 all-purpose yards and had four interceptions.
12. HB Frank Sinkwich, Georgia
Year: 1942
He set the SEC passing record (at the time) with 1,392 yards in the air and 10 touchdowns. He also ran for 795 yards and another 17 scores in becoming the eighth Heisman winner.
