Janet Jackson Postpones World Tour So She Can Undergo Surgery - Janet Jackson is postponing her first world tour in four years because she has to undergo surgery, the star announced on Thursday.

The "No Sleep" singer, who was scheduled to begin the 2016 leg of the Unbreakable tour in Colorado on Jan. 9, broke the news to fans on Facebook.

"Hey you guys," Jackson wrote. "Happy Holidays to each and every one of you. I need you to know, I learned today, from my doctors that I must have surgery soon. It breaks my heart to tell you that I am forced to postpone the Unbreakable Tour until the spring."

Jackson, 49, said that all the stops would be rescheduled and that concertgoers should "hold on to" their tickets, as they will be honored in a "special way."

"Please pray for me, my family and our entire company during this difficult time," Jackson said. "There will be no further comment. I love you all so much and am ever grateful for your understanding and your love. Gon' b alright."

Hey you guys… Happy Holidays to each and every one of you. I need you to know, I learned today, from my doctors that I must have surgery soon. It breaks my heart to tell you that I am forced to postpone the Unbreakable Tour until the spring. Every date will be rescheduled. Please hold on to your tickets. They will be honored in a special way when the new schedule is announced. Please pray for me, my family and our entire company during this difficult time. There will be no further comment. I love you all so much and am ever grateful for your understanding and your love. Gon' b alright.

Reps for Jackson did not immediately respond to requests for comment from PEOPLE. The star did not offer up any specifics about the surgery or why she needs it.

The show's new dates have yet to be announced, but the star was originally meant to finish up the international tour in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 29.

Jackson released Unbreakable, her 11th studio album, earlier this year. She began touring in Vancouver – her first time on the road in four years.

Despite the mystery operation, Jackson kept positive, wishing her fans "light, love, health and happiness this holiday season" on Christmas day, Friday.
