Tina Fey Was A 'Mean Girl'

Tina Fey admits she was a Mean Girl - If you were friends with Tina Fey in high school, you might have been part of a pack that resembled the Plastics from Mean Girls. In an interview with Net-A-Porter.Com's The EDIT, the Sisters actress revealed that she was more Regina George than Cady Heron when she was growing up.

"I was, I admit it openly," Fey said. "That was a disease that had to be conquered. It's another coping mechanism -- it's a bad coping mechanism -- but when you feel less than (in high school, everyone feels less than everyone else for different reasons), in your mind it's a way of leveling the playing field. Though of course it's not. Saying something terrible about someone else does not actually level the playing field."

Fey has addressed the issue before. Not only did she write Mean Girls, but in the 2008 episode of 30 Rock, "Reunion," Liz Lemon went back to high school to discover that she hadn't been the quiet social leper she remembered -- in fact, she had been a bully who terrified classmates with cruel taunts.

With her Mean Girl days over, Fey's focus is on setting a good example both professionally and personally for her two daughters. But deep down, she still knows that insecurity and the terror of teenage girls. "If I meet a girl of 14 or 15 today who is that kind of girl, I am secretly, in my body, afraid," she said. "Even though I'm 45."
