NORAD started tracking Santa 60 years ago this Christmas and believe it or not this tradition started by accident in 1955. Sears advertised a phone number for kids to call and check on Santa's progress, but a typo in the ad gave the number for the NORAD instead, according to Tech Times News today.

The folks at NORAD didn't have the heart to tell the kids they had the wrong number and history was made! NORAD uses the technology available today to make tracking Santa visual, a far cry from the original phone calls. Google started their Santa Tracker 11 years ago.
