Clark Hunt Expects NFL Team in Los Angeles

Chiefs' Clark Hunt expects NFL team in L.A. for 2016 - Sunday's game against the Raiders not only marks the Chiefs' regular-season finale, but also — perhaps — the last time the Raiders represent Oakland.

The Raiders, along with the San Diego Chargers and St. Louis Rams, are among three NFL teams most likely to land in Los Angeles for 2016, but Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt — who is a part of the NFL’s six-man Los Angeles relocation committee, which will meet this week — didn't offer any hints about which franchise will earn that right.

Teams may submit relocation bids on Monday.

“Well, there’s still a lot of information that we need to look at,” Hunt said Sunday. “First of all, I don’t know who will be putting in a bid to relocate. We suspect the Raiders may be one of those teams. And also, we need to consider the opportunities that have been put forward by their markets, by Oakland, by St. Louis, by San Diego, for the teams to stay. So we’ll be going through all that this week and then on to the league meeting the following week.”

Hunt, however, did say that he feels that the best thing for NFL, when possible, is for teams to stay where they are, though he noted that's probably not a realistic option at this point.

“All three of those teams have tremendous fan bases in their home markets — in an ideal world, I’d like to see them all stay where they are,” Hunt said. “It’s probably not going to work out that way — there will be at least one team that moves to LA. I can’t speculate on who it will be at this point.”

Hunt was also asked to comment on a Pro Football Talk report several weeks ago about the Chiefs' reported opposition to the proposed Raiders-Chargers joint venture in Los Angeles without realignment. The thinking is that both teams would have an unfair advantage over the other AFC West teams because of having an extra home game in the form of a road game.

“I saw that report,” Hunt said. “And there was no truth to it at all.”
