Renault Recalls Cars in Europe Over NOx Emissions - According to French newspaper Les Echos, real-world NOX emissions in a few of Renault's diesel cars have proved much higher than results from laboratory tests. One of these vehicles includes the 110-hp Captur subcompact CUV, a vehicle Renault has already begun recalling.

Renault is calling back approximately 15,000 of these diesel cars to recalibrate engine control units. "All Renault vehicles are fully compliant with current regulations," the automaker stressed in a statement, while also admitting it's working to improve future emissions systems. Reports claim that the number of vehicles eligible for inspection could reach 700,000 based on current production levels, although Renault denies that 700,000 cars need a software update.

The French government began looking into diesel cars after the VW scandal hit the press, setting up an independent commission to test 100 cars at random to compare on-road emissions with laboratory benchmarks. Just last week, police raided Renault's headquarters in France and seized several computers over emissions concerns. In addition to the Renault Captur, Les Echos reported that the Ford C-Max and Mercedes-Benz S-Class have come under scrutiny for excessive diesel emissions.
