FAA spokesman Tony Molinaro had no further details about the landing of Flight 734 about 11:55 a.m. Friday. He said the agency is investigating.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
Passenger Leigh Honeywell told The Associated Press the landing seemed normal until the pilot announced the plane was "off the end of the runway."
A United Airlines spokeswoman didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
The National Weather Service reported light snow falling at O'Hare Friday. The Chicago Aviation Department said more than 155 flights had been canceled, many due to winter weather on the East Coast.
