She was not hurt.
Sofya Doroshenko was trapped on the balcony of her Mahwah, New Jersey, home with flames shooting from windows and black smoke blocking doorways.
"I didn't know what to do and I just listened to them," Sofya told WABC-TV. "I just jumped because it was no chance."
Lt. Jeff Dino and two other officers were standing below her, telling her to jump.
A bystander took video of the fire.
"She was the most confident, brave little kid that I've ever met. She put complete faith in us and when she jumped back we caught her," Dino said.
The child had been home alone Tuesday afternoon when the unit across the hall from her burst into flames. She tried to flee down the hallway, but smoke and flames blocked her way, she said.
She retreated to the balcony as the fire quickly spread.
She and her family lost all their possessions in the blaze that destroyed five other homes and damaged several others, the station reported.

"I want to thank them. I didn't believe this could happen, but it happened, and thank you for saving my child," said Yulia Doroshenko.
The fire apparently started in the condo of an elderly woman who was cooking, authorities said.
