Grizzlies C Gasol out for season - Grizzlies C Marc Gasol is officially out for the season after undergoing successful surgery on Saturday to repair his broken right foot, the team announced. He is, however, expected to make a full recovery.
He last played on Feb. 8 vs. the Portland Trail Blazers but lasted just 11 minutes before exiting the game. He had previously acknowledged playing through an injury, but it wasn’t clear when he had initially broken his foot.

“Marc remains a cornerstone of our franchise and we are pleased to hear that the surgery went according to plan,” Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace said. “Marc’s determination and competitive spirit will serve him, his family and the team well as he begins the healing and rehab process from which we expect him to make a full recovery. We are confident we will have Marc back anchoring our team next season and beyond.”

Added Gasol: “I understand that the focus of this process is on long-term health and stability. I look forward to the road ahead and a full and successful recovery.”

The Grizzlies (32-23) are comfortably in fifth place in the Western Conference playoff race and have won two of their last three since Gasol went down.
