Denise Katrina Matthews, who was commonly known as Vanity from the '80s group Vanity 6, died at the age of 57 on Feb. 15, 2016, after battling kidney failure.
A few months ago, a GoFundMe page was set up for her as she'd been diagnosed with sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis.
Vanity's biggest hit was "Nasty Girl" in 1982, a song produced by Prince. He was the one to rename her "Vanity," because he said that he saw his female reflection when he looked at her.
Vanity 6 toured with Prince until they disbanded in 1983, and after that, Vanity signed a solo record deal with Motown.
In addition to her music career, Vanity was also in movies including, "The Last Dragon" and "Action Jackson."

Romantically, Vanity was linked to Prince, Adam Ant and Billy Idol. She married football player Anthony Smith of the Oakland Raiders in 1995, but they divorced the following year.
The '90s were a difficult period for Vanity as she battled crack addiction. Due to the effects of the drugs on her kidneys, she had to undergo peritoneal dialysis five times a day.
After she quit drugs, Vanity became a born-again Christian and concentrated on evangelism after quitting drugs.
According to TMZ, Vanity was in church a couple days before she passed and told the congregation she was "ready to go home."
