Teacher Donates Kidney

Wisconsin teacher donating kidney to ailing 8-year-old student - A Wisconsin teacher is instructing her own personal course in love.

Jodi Schmidt of Oakfield Elementary School is planning to donate a kidney to an ailing 8-year-old student.

The first-grade teacher let Natasha Fuller's family know about her intentions by gift-wrapping the message.

"I was just just shocked when I opened up the box, just amazed, speechless," Natasha's grandmother Chris Burleton told WISN.

Schmidt said she looked into Natasha's eyes and decided "I'll do it," according to the station.

Natasha was born with kidney disease and only survives with dialysis. She desperately needs a kidney transplant.

"I can't jump. I can't run. I can't do hula-hoops, and I can't do jump-roping," Natasha told KMOV. "Sometimes some people don't have a match for you. And sometimes you try to look for a match but you can't find one."

Jodi's husband Richard told WISN he is "probably more nervous about it than she is."

As he told KMOV: "I was probably getting supper ready for the kids or something and she called and said 'Hey, I think I want to donate a kidney'. And I'm like 'OK, let's back it up a little bit.'"

The transplant could be scheduled within a month.
