Lagos - The Nigerian started doing demonstrations against the rising prices of fuel oil (BBM). They lit fireworks and went on strike, which prompted the government to be alert to the possibility of unrest.
The biggest protests took place in the city of Lagos is the economic center of Nigeria. This city does have the highest population and largest oil producer in Nigeria. But at the same time militant group Boko Haram, also often perform the action of attack in Lagos.
A total of 300 people protest action at the union office in Lagos, while the other 1,000 residents gathered in the center of the city against the government. Perpetrators of protest seemed also burn tires, as a form of their resistance against the government.
"We are just our voices heard," said Secretary-General of Trade Union Congress of Nigeria John Kolawole told AFP on Monday (01/09/2012).
Action against the government relating rising fuel prices had been going on since last week. Protests and even filled with violence that caused dozens of people were killed.
Police accused of repressive actions in dealing with protests. But they denied the accusation, saying that the death toll from the rage of the masses.
Protest against price rises can not be separated from the government's decision to remove fuel subsidies since 1 January. But the citizens of Nigeria to assess the action is unfair, because those subsidies are the profits they get from the Government of Nigeria is corrupt.
