0550 GMT [Dow Jones] Taiwan shares end 0.1% higher at 8899.90 in quiet trade, mostly supported by gains in tech heavyweights such as Hon Hai (2317.TW) following Friday's gains on Wall Street, says a local trader. But many investors refrained from trading actively amid a dearth of fresh trading cues; trading volume NT$71.2 billion was the lowest since April 21, he says. "But the government-backed funds are likely to step in to lift the market on Tuesday to celebrate President Ma's inaugural anniversary," he says, and tips the index to trade between 8850 and 8950 on Tuesday. Hon Hai ends 1.1% higher at NT$89.80, Largan Precision (3008.TW) jumps 3.4% to NT$1980.00; but MediaTek (2454.TW) is 2.0% lower to NT$492.00 and TSMC (2330.TW) is down 0.8% at NT$121.00.
