0828 GMT [Dow Jones] The USD/TWD is little changed, with market participants turning cautious as the local central bank seems to defending the pair around 30.100, say two local traders. The pair closes at 30.167 vs 30.165 late Wednesday in Taipei; they say the central bank is believed to have bought the USD around NT$30.110 by the close to keep the pair in its target band. Foreign investor sales weighed on the pair in morning session, but they say the central bank called several bank trading rooms in afternoon when the pair fell below 30.100 to check where USD sales were coming from. "That suggests the central bank doesn't want the pair to fall further," a trader says, and tips the pair to trade between 30.080 and 30.130 Friday. (fanny.liu@wsj.com)
