Hong Kong Stocks Take Sudden Dip at Close - Bank Decline

0843 GMT [Dow Jones] Hong Kong endured a choppy session but the Hang Seng Index suddenly fell 200 points at the close to snap a three-week winning streak. The benchmark fell 0.7% to 22951.00 while the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index closes down 0.2% at 10340.99. "Comments that several provinces may cut corporate taxes to help SMEs and the banking regulator saying that SME loans may be removed from bank/deposit ratio wasn't enough to stop the selloff rot today," Parry International Trading says. There was short selling in Bank of China (3988.HK) at the close pushing the stock down 2.2% to HK$3.63--the most heavily shorted stock on the main board. China Construction Bank (0939.HK) is also hit hard by selling, traders say while reports of security threats to Hong Kong airlines hurt sentiment. (gregor.hunter@wsj.com; Twitter: @gregorhunter)
