China CPI Likely Up 2.5%, PPI Down 1.5% in May - Poll

0833 GMT [Dow Jones] Base effects and a rebound in food prices are likely responsible for a 2.5% year-over-year rise in consumer inflation in China in May, according to a median forecast of 15 economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal. The consumer-price index rose 1.8% in April. The producer price index gauge of factory-gate prices likely fell 1.5% compared with a decrease of 2.0% the month before, the survey shows. "With global commodity prices stabilizing and a weaker yuan pushing up import prices producer-price inflation looks set to rebound in coming months," Capital Economics says in a note. The data are due Tuesday 0130 GMT. (liyan.qi@wsj.com)
