0809 GMT [Dow Jones] The USD racked some impressive gains overnight but more by default than anything else. USD/JPY printed a fresh 7-year high in the wake of PM Abe delaying the next tax hike and calling a snap election for December 21. AUD/USD looked heavy after iron ore prices dropped 4% to a fresh 5-year low, NZD/USD took a hit from a very weak Fonterra dairy auction, while CAD slipped after the U.S. senate rejected a bill to approve the Keystone XL oil pipeline. Closer to home, sterling is just off recent 1-year lows vs USD ahead of the BoE November minutes (0930 GMT), which are likely to reinforce the dovish message from last week's BoE Inflation Report. Up ahead the FOMC October Minutes (1900 GMT) grab attention. gary.stride@WSJ.com
