NEW YORK, Feb. 11, 2015
NEW YORK, Feb. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Conference Board Leading Economic Index(R) (LEI) for Korea declined 0.1 percent in December to 108.1 (2010 = 100), following a 0.5 percent decline in November, and a 0.4 percent increase in October.
At the same time, The Conference Board Coincident Economic Index(R) (CEI) for Korea, a measure of current economic activity, increased 0.7 percent in December to 107.5 (2010 = 100), following a 0.3 percent increase in November, and a 0.1 percent decline in October.
The LEI for Korea has declined in the last two months, and as a result, its six-month growth rate, while still positive, has slowed substantially compared to the first half of last year. Meanwhile, the CEI for Korea increased in December, and its six-month change has improved considerably over the second half of 2014. The weaker growth in the leading economic index and diminishing strengths among its components suggest that the economy may be facing downward pressures in the months ahead.
About The Conference Board Leading Economic Index(R) (LEI) for Korea
The composite economic indexes are the key elements in an analytic system designed to signal peaks and troughs in the business cycle. The leading and coincident economic indexes are essentially composite averages of several individual leading or coincident indicators. They are constructed to summarize and reveal common turning point patterns in economic data in a clearer and more convincing manner than any individual component -- primarily because they smooth out some of the volatility of individual components.
The six components of The Conference Board Leading Economic Index(R) for Korea include:
Stock Prices
Value of Machinery Orders
Index of Inventories to Shipments
Export FOB
Yield of Government Public Bonds
Private Construction Orders
