Los Angeles authorities arrest homeless man with cache of firearms - Los Angeles County authorities arrested a homeless man Wednesday who had five firearms, including two operable World War II-era machine guns.

Sheriff’s Detective Dennis Elmore said deputies patrolling a homeless camp in Harbor City arrested Richard Cunningham, 57. Elmore said Cunningham also was in possession of high-capacity magazines and ammunition for the M3 machine guns, which are also known as “grease guns.”

The Los Angeles Times reports Cunningham was also in possession of two makeshift silencers. Deputies discovered the weapons Saturday while patrolling Doble Avenue and Lomita Boulevard. They found the homeless camp on private property and began to inspect it, according to the Times.

Cunningham faces charges including possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a large-capacity magazine and possession of a machine gun, according to City News Service.

It is unclear what Cunningham’s previous conviction was or how he was able to obtain such an arsenal of weapons.
