Chesapeake Murder-suicide, Tragedy In Virginia

Wavy
Virginia man kills 5 family members, himself in shooting - A Virginia man shot his brother dead in their family home, then killed four other relatives in a nearby house before turning the gun on himself Wednesday, police said.

Police named Cameron Dooley, 26, as the shooter for the slaughter in Chesapeake.

He killed his brother Landon, 22, in their house around 3:35 p.m., police said. He then went to the house belonging to his grandmother, Doris, and murdered more relatives — father Steven Todd, 50; mother Lori, 54; sister Brooke, 17; and an unidentified female, authorities said.

Officers negotiated with Cameron for hours before entering the second home, finding him and his family members dead. Despite the marathon standoff, police believe Cameron killed his relatives even before authorities arrived.

Police gave no information about what may have led to the bloodbath.

A friend of Landon Dooley said the killer brother was autistic. Landon had mentioned that Cameron could get "crazy and violent" if he stopped taking his medication, the friend said.

"He'd been on some medicine for probably a long time," Kellz Jones, 21, told the Daily News.

"He maybe didn't take it that day, was feeling some type of way where he couldn't control himself. But he kills his family? I don't know. It's so messed up."

But Landon rarely mentioned his brother and never alluded to domestic problems, Jones said.

Stunned neighbors told the Virginian-Pilot the family was deeply religious. The late grandfather, Allen Dooley, was a pastor.

"This is a shock," neighbor Desiree Darst told the paper.

"I don't know. I just can't believe it ... it hasn't sunk in yet."

The paper also said the grandmother Doris is the sixth victim.

The killer's father, Steven Todd, was a retired Chesapeake police officer.
