To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Disney Channel Original Movie/instant classic High School Musical, Disney has announced that the original cast will reunite for special telecast of the movie, airing Wednesday.
Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu, and Monique Coleman recently returned to East High to tape a series of segments reflecting on their HSM experience. Zac Efron will also appear in a pre-taped message to fans.
"Seeing the cast of High School Musical back together again reaffirms what made it special 10 years ago," Gary Marsh, Disney Channels Worldwide president and chief creative officer, said in a release. "It's their optimism, their dedication, and their extraordinary talent -- as a group -- that made this such an exceptional movie and cultural phenomenon. Ten years later, the movie continues to delight audiences around the globe, not just for its memorable song and dance numbers, but for its universal themes that continue to resonate with fans everywhere -- express yourself, believe in yourself, and always follow your dreams."
The original High School Musical debuted Jan. 20, 2006 to a whopping 7.7 million viewers in the U.S., earning Disney Channel's then-highest ratings of all time. The original soundtrack became the No. 1 album of 2006, and the story of Troy, Gabriella, and their fellow Wildcats went on to spawn two additional movies, an arena concert tour, and even High School Musical: The Ice Tour.
