Anti-drone Eagles

Anti-drone eagles used by Dutch: Nature's feathered swoop and grip technology - Anti-drone eagles are the newest frontline defense in taking the pesky unwanted drones out of the sky, for the Dutch anyway. The Dutch National Police have trained an eagle to take down a drone if law enforcement deems it necessary.

According to Fox News on February 1, The Dutch call the drones UAVs or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, but no matter what you call it, if they are flying somewhere they are not supposed to be, a bird is going to attack it and fetch it out of the sky! With all the technology wrapped up in a drone and the years that it has taken to prefect that technology, it is a creature from Mother Nature that will take it down!

Peta Pixel News reports today that the Dutch are the first to train and use eagles to take down drones. The net-carrying drones that were once conjured up to catch a drone in flight looks like way too much work after eyeing this eagle wiping out the drone's journey as if it were second nature for this feathered weapon.

In the video above you can see that eagle in action as it swoops down on the drone and grabs it with its talons. That bird has that drone securely in its grip and he comes in for a landing with that drone still gripped in its talons. It is quite the feat for an eagle.

Drones can pose a security risk because of their size and ease of maneuvering. That risk was highlighted last year when a drone crashed into the White House. While the U.S. has not released any plans to train eagles for a drone fighting force, they have amped up its anti-drone efforts. A laser weapon is on the drawing board at the Office of Naval Research. This would be used to shoot the unwanted drones right out of the sky.

Boeing offered up a demonstration of their laser cannon last year. That cannon could be used to destroy drones. With the drones becoming more and more affordable to the average person there will be more and more of these flying nuisances in the airspace above your heads. Does that mean trained eagles will be the watchdogs of the future? Just like a trained dog on the ground, folks can train birds of prey to protect the airspace above their homes!
