Bernie Sanders on Phish: 'One of the Great Bands in This Country' - Undeterred by a not-so-Super Tuesday, Bernie Sanders was back on the campaign trail Wednesday accompanied by a special guest: Phish drummer Jon Fishman, who played drums and spoke at the Portland, Maine rally. While speaking to supporters, Sanders praised the Vermont jam band.

"Let me thank, I guess, one of Vermont's heroes who is now transplanted, Jon Fishman," Sanders said (via Mashable). "Jon and Phish have made New England proud. They are one of the great bands, have been one of the great bands in this country."
In addition to manning a drum kit with the Kenya Hall Band and speaking to the Maine supporters, Fishman also recently released a video where the drummer – wearing a Bernie 2016 shirt – asked his fans to vote for the Vermont senator. In the video, Fishman says he's been following Sanders' career for over 30 years as Sanders became the mayor of Burlington the same year Fishman moved to the Vermont city.

This wasn't Fishman's first time campaigning on behalf of Sanders, as the drummer has been feeling the Bern for over a decade. In 2006, when Sanders was running for Senate after 16 years in the House of Representatives, both Fishman and Phish bassist Mike Gordon performed at a concert in support of Sanders.
