Pablo Antonio Serrano-Vitorino was “wanted for questioning in multiple homicides,” the Missouri State Highway Patrol said in a news release Tuesday, which noted that his last known location was near New Florence, Mo., a small community about 75 miles from St. Louis.
“Serrano-Vitorino is considered armed and dangerous, and may be armed with an AK-47,” the highway patrol said. “Use extreme caution if Serrano-Vitorino is encountered. Please do not approach or attempt to contact this individual.”
The search was launched after four men were killed in Kansas City on Monday night, according to the Kansas City Star. Police told the Star that Serrano-Vitorino lived near the scene of the slayings.
The newspaper reported:
One neighbor said she slept through the gunshots Monday night but awoke when her dog started barking. She heard panicked screams, went outside to investigate and saw emergency medical workers tending to a man still alive on the porch across the street. That man apparently had called 911 after being shot.
Law enforcement considers Serrano-Vitorino a suspect in another death in Missouri, Highway Patrol Lt. Paul Reinsch told The Post. That slaying happened Tuesday “in the New Florence area,” about 175 miles from Kansas City, Kan., the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Early Tuesday morning, Serrano-Vitorino’s vehicle was spotted in the area, along the shoulder of Interstate 70, Reinsch said. About 25 minutes later, a 911 call came into Montgomery County emergency dispatchers. Officers who responded to the call discovered the fifth homicide victim, a 49-year-old man.
Tuesday’s search was primarily focused in the New Florence area, Reinsch said.
Helicopters and K-9 teams had been dispatched and approximately 75 to 100 law enforcement officers were involved in the effort.
Officers were also stationed at local schools, which were locked down as the search continued, Reinsch said.
