Whole Foods Peeled Oranges, WFM: 'Our MIstake'

Whole Foods’ Pre-Peeled Oranges Are the Ultimate in Bourgeois Laziness - The internet blew up yesterday after a photo of a shelf of peeled oranges in plastic containers went viral. The photo was taken by one Nathalie Gordon who spotted the naked oranges for sale at Whole Foods. Yes, Whole Foods, also known as the place that tried to sell asparagus water for $6. The displayed price on this shelf of oranges reads "$5.99/LB (REG $6.99/LB)." Of note: These are actually Sumo tangerines, a somewhat harder to find citrus fruit than, say, the average Navel orange, but by all accounts incredibly easy to peel thanks to its nipple-like top knot which provides a nice grip.
Whole Foods noticed the tweet a few hours after it was posted and apologized:
Later, the retailer famous for its high prices and for actually ripping people off released a statement:

"A lot of our customers love the convenience of our cut produce offerings, but this was a simple case where a handful of stores experimented with a seasonal product spotlight that wasn't fully thought through. We're glad some customers pointed it out so we could take a closer look."

Meanwhile, Twitter is still all abuzz, and the conversation has turned political.
So far neither Donald Trump nor Hillary Clinton have weighed in but fake Bernie Sanders does have this to say about citrus:
