Singapore's Economy Accelerates But Outlook Cautious

0027 GMT [Dow Jones] Singapore's economy grows faster than previously estimated in the third quarter as manufacturing activity recovers. The economy grows 3.1% on quarter on a seasonally adjusted and annualized basis in the July-to-September period, the Ministry of Trade and Industry says in a statement. That's faster than the 1.2% growth it estimated in advance estimates released last month and a reversal of a 0.3% contraction in the second quarter. Measured year-on-year, the economy grows 2.8% in the third quarter, compared with a prior estimate of 2.4% growth. The economy had expanded 2.3% on year in the second quarter. "For the rest of the year, growth is expected to ease slightly on a year-on-year basis, in line with a projected slowdown in the global economy," the government says. It says it expects the economy to grow about 3.0% in 2014, compared with a prior prediction of growth between 2.5% and 3.5%, and adds Singapore's economy is expected to grow between 2.0% and 4.0% in 2015.
