Erik Bragg posted an image on Instagram purporting to be a real Powerball ticket containing the winning numbers from Wednesday’s drawing.
But Bragg’s boast was immediately met with skepticism by hordes of social media users who suspected he was nothing more than a hoaxer with decent Photoshop skills.
“OMG I WON $1.5 BILLION!!!!!” Bragg wrote below the image.
“I’m posting this in case anyone tries to jack me this is proof! Look it up, I bought in chino hills where I grew up! #powerball”
There was no immediate confirmation of Bragg’s claim.
But the shaggy skateboarder and filmmaker did have one thing going for him — he does at least appear to live in California, where one of the three winning tickets was sold.
The two other winners bought their tickets in Tennessee and Florida.
The winning California ticket was sold in Chino Hills. The instant millionaire from Tennessee purchased the ticket in the town of Munford, while the winning Florida ticket was sold at a Publix grocery store in Melbourne Beach.
Each of the three winning tickets is worth $528.8 million, the California Lottery said. The winning numbers were 08, 27, 34, 04, 19, and Powerball 10.
The jackpot surged to the largest lottery prize in history after 20 previous drawings yielded no winners.
