Rock legends Dave Grohl, Slash among those to honor Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister at musician's emotional funeral - A bevy of the world's most iconic rock stars came together on Saturday to honor late Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister at his emotional funeral in Los Angeles.

Dave Grohl, Ozzy Osbourne and Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash were just several of the heavy metal stars who attended the touching memorial service for Lemmy — who passed away on Dec. 28, two days after he was diagnosed with "extremely aggressive cancer," according to his band.

Many of the world-famous rockers even lined up to share their memories of the "Ace of Spades" singer and bassist — with Grohl holding back tears as he honored his longtime friend.

"What everyone in this room has learned today is that Lemmy was not only that badass-looking, whiskey drinking, badass motherf---ing rock star, but he had the biggest heart and he set such a great example because he was so kind to everyone," the former Nirvana drummer said.

Rob Halford of Judas Priest, meanwhile, marveled at the love being shared at the service and called Lemmy "a true rock 'n' roll maverick."

"Here was a man who lived life and rock 'n' roll on his own terms," he said.

Lemmy, whose real name is Ian Fraser Kilmister, was one of the most influential figures in the heavy metal genre. He founded Motörhead, a band revered for its loud and fast style of music, in 1975 — and the group went on to release 20 studio albums over its four decade run.

Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee told Sweden's Expressen newspaper that the band is "over" after Lemmy's death, adding that he was amazed his former bandmate managed to complete the band's most recent tour, which wrapped up early last month.

"He was terribly gaunt, he spent all his energy onstage and afterwards he was very, very tired," Dee said. "It's incredible that he could even play."

Lemmy, who once famously boasted he had slept with 1,000 women by his 63rd birthday, epitomized the rock star lifestyle, telling The Guardian in 2014 that he was "indestructible" and the personification of the "sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll" credo.

Slash backed this up at the funeral on Saturday, saying the free-spirited Lemmy "lived his life the way he wanted to."

"Lemmy was somebody I just feel so honored to have been friends with," he said. "His music and personality will last forever."

Other celebrities such as Ice T, Julliette Lewis and Metallica members Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo also attended the funeral service — which was viewed by thousands of fans around the world through a live stream on YouTube.
