The Dog Cafe opens in Los Angeles: Enjoy cafe style latte while you shop, adopt - The Dog Cafe is now open in Los Angeles – a one of a kind dog adoption experience that combines kicking back with a latte while you browse the rescue dogs looking for their forever homes. The cafe is dubbed “America’s first,” and for $10 an hour, you can enjoy a beverage and peruse a number of fostered dogs waiting to be adopted.

Reports FOX LA News on April 7: “The Dog Cafe, which held its grand opening on Thursday, is a coffee shop that also lets customers cuddle with adoptable rescue dogs.” Customers can sip on their coffee or tea in the cafe, then head over to the lounge next door to check out the dogs awaiting a place to call home.

The Dog Cafe website says guests can “play with pups as you grab your coffee fix, or catch up with friends over lattes, snuggling lap dogs.” The site says the Cafe’s mission is to “revolutionize dog adoption by reinventing the way people connect with rescues who need homes. The Dog Cafe offers a comfortable and fun space for humans and dogs to hang out with each other, away from overcrowded shelters, which can provoke fear and aggression in perfectly adoptable pups.”

In addition to placing “worthy pups” into homes, the site also offers an opportunity “for people unable to have pets of their own to spend quality time with furry friends (and vice versa) without the commitment of adoption.”

While walk-ins are accepted, the cafe encourages advance reservations. The cafe is already fully booked through April 12. Children under the age of 5 are not permitted, and kids between the ages of 5 and 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The website says that visitors cannot bring their own dogs at this time, though that is a goal the cafe has moving forward. If you are wondering how your dog might interact with a new friend you are looking to adopt, the site says: “For now, we are happy to arrange outdoor meetings between your own dogs and Dog Cafe dogs you might be interested in adopting.”
