Indonesia Sept Inflation Leaves Room for Fuel Price Hike

0525 GMT [Dow Jones]--Indonesia's September inflation still leaves room for the government to hike subsidized fuel prices as year-end inflation, as a result of higher fuel prices, will likely remain palatable. The official statistics agency says year-on-year inflation accelerated to 4.53% in September compared with 3.99% in August because of lower base last year after the impact of June 2013 fuel prices started to wane. "If the government hikes fuel prices in November by IDR3,000 a liter, year-end inflation will likely be around 9%. So, there's enough space for fuel price hike," says Bank International Indonesia's economist Juniman. He says, hiking fuel prices will also help reduce fuel imports, which have been weighing on trade balance. (i-made.sentana@wsj.com)
